The live registry polls 690 individual feeds — the table below lists the major source families rather than every single one.

How fresh is the data?

It depends on the source. Some publish in near real time — dispatch/911 feeds like Seattle Fire and NOPD calls for service, and CAP weather alerts from national meteorological services. Most police open-data portals lag hours to days behind the incident itself, and media-sourced pins are approximate block-level locations. “Live” means the map re-checks every feed on its own cadence and shows each incident's reported age — not that every source is real-time. Every source lists its refresh cadence and last fetch on the sources page.

Methodology & caveats

• Every incident is normalized to a shared model — category, severity, location, time, source — and labelled with its source on the map.
• Media-derived incidents (e.g. Vernon/North Okanagan) are geocoded from article text and are approximate to the block or landmark level. They reflect what is newsworthy, not a complete crime record.
• Vancouver crime history uses the VPD open-data archive (2003–present), enabling year-over-year neighbourhood trend comparisons in the Trends tab.
• CityAlert is an aggregation and awareness tool. For emergencies always follow official channels — 911, Environment Canada, NHC, PAGASA, and local authorities.
