Informational only — not for safety decisions

CityAlert aggregates public data for general awareness. Do not rely on this Service for safety, evacuation, travel, or emergency decisions. Always follow official channels: call 911 (or your local emergency number) in an emergency, and follow Environment Canada, Alert Ready, the US National Weather Service, national meteorological services, police, fire and civil-authority instructions. Where this data overlaps with official police open data (e.g. Vancouver PD GeoDASH), the same rule applies — the authoritative source is the issuing agency, not this map.

No warranty on accuracy or timeliness

• The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
• Feeds refresh on different cycles and each source has its own publication lag; incidents may be delayed, duplicated, miscategorized, or missing entirely.
• Media-sourced incidents are approximate — typically block- or landmark-level — and selective: they reflect what is newsworthy, not a complete crime record. Community reports are unverified user submissions.
• Locations shown for crimes may have been generalized by the source agency; nothing on the map identifies or accuses any individual.

Acceptable use — including /api endpoints

• The JSON endpoints under /api (incidents, trends, regions, news, MCP) exist for reasonable personal, research and light-integration use, consistent with their cache headers.
• Do not abusively scrape the Service: no high-volume polling, no hammering endpoints to bypass rate limits, no reselling raw responses, and no use that degrades the Service for others. We may throttle or block abusive clients.
• Commercial or bulk use requires prior written permission — contact contact@cityalert.live.
• Don't submit false, misleading, defamatory or unlawful community reports, and don't include other people's personal information in reports.

Community reports

By submitting a report you grant CityAlert a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, store and redistribute that report (location, category, description) as part of the Service and its data feeds. Reports may be moderated, edited for clarity, or removed at our discretion or in response to a flag — see Contact.

Incidents and headlines link out to government portals and publishers we don't control; their own terms and licenses apply — see Sources & attribution. Linking does not imply endorsement by or of those sources.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CityAlert and its operator are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of — or inability to use — the Service, including decisions made in reliance on mapped information.
